Surface classification, differences, and uses of PPGI PPGL color coated steel coils

Release time:2025-07-31

Pre coated steel coil is a product made by coating organic coatings on the surface of substrates (such as cold-rolled steel plates, galvanized steel plates, aluminum zinc alloy coated steel plates, etc.) and baking them. It has the characteristics of corrosion resistance, decorative and functional properties. The surface classification, differences, and uses are as follows:

1Surface classification and differentiation

The surface treatment of color coated steel coils is mainly divided into the following categories, with differences mainly reflected in coating structure, performance, and application scenarios:

1. 1. Classified by coating structure

Single coating and single baking: 1 layer of primer+1 layer of topcoat (one-time baking). The process is simple and cost-effective, but the weather resistance and durability are weak. Cold rolled sheet, galvanized sheet.

Two coats and two baking: one layer of primer and one layer of topcoat (two baking). The primer and topcoat are cured layer by layer, with strong adhesion, better corrosion resistance and weather resistance. Galvanized sheet, aluminum zinc plated sheet

Three coats and three baking: primer+intermediate coat+topcoat (three baking) high-performance coating, resistant to ultraviolet radiation and chemical corrosion, suitable for harsh environments. Substrate with high weather resistance requirements.

1.2. Classified by surface glossiness (60 ° glossiness)

Highlight:>70% of the surface is bright and decorative, but prone to scratches.

Half gloss/matte: 30%~70% balance aesthetics and practicality, resistant to fingerprints and scratches.

Matte:<30% low-key texture, suitable for industrial style or concealed engineering.

1.3. Classify by surface texture

Smooth surface: flat and textured, easy to clean, suitable for household appliances and building exterior walls.

Embossing/relief: Creating textures (such as wood grain and stone grain) through embossing rollers, with strong decorative properties and hidden scratches.

Sand/suede: delicate matte texture, anti fingerprint, commonly used for electronic device casings.

1.4. Classification by functional coating

PVDF coating: containing fluorocarbon resin, resistant to ultraviolet radiation and chemical corrosion, with a lifespan of over 20 years (such as building curtain walls).

PE coating: Polyester coating, cost-effective, suitable for general environments such as household appliances and interior decoration.

HDP coating: High durability polyester with performance between PE and PVDF, suitable for moderate weather resistance requirements.

Antibacterial coating: adding antibacterial agents, used in places with high hygiene requirements such as hospitals and food processing.

2Main purpose

Color coated steel coils have a wide range of applications, and their specific uses depend on the surface type and performance

2.1. Construction field

Roof/wall: PVDF or HDP coating (strong weather resistance), embossed surface (decorative).

Curtain wall panel: High gloss or metallic texture coating to enhance aesthetics.

Soundproofing wall/lining panel: Matte or matte surface to reduce costs.

2.2. Home appliance industry

Refrigerator/washing machine panel: PE coating+smooth surface, easy to clean.

Microwave/oven: high temperature resistant coating, sand surface treatment to prevent fingerprints.

2.3. Transportation

Interior of the carriage: Fireproof and flame-retardant coating, embossed texture wear-resistant.

Container: High corrosion resistant coating (such as aluminum zinc substrate+triple coating process).

2.4. Industrial equipment

Ventilation duct: Antibacterial coating, anti mold and moisture-proof.

Storage shelves: Low cost PE coating, matte anti glare.

2.5. Furniture decoration

Metal furniture: embossed wood or stone grain, imitating natural materials.

Billboard: High gloss coating, bright colors.

3Choose Suggestions

Weather resistance priority: PVDF or HDP coating is preferred for outdoor environments (such as building roofs).

Cost priority: PE coating is optional for indoor use (such as home electrical panels).

Decorative requirements: embossed or high gloss surfaces (such as commercial building curtain walls).
